Who I am and my roots

  • I am Davide, a breeder of Ligustica bees (Apis mellifera ligustica) in Reggio Emilia. I combine local tradition with modern criteria to provide reliable Ligustica queens, nuclei, and package bees.

    I select colonies based on objective parameters:

    • Consistent productivity
    • Gentleness and fast work pace
    • Moderate swarming tendency
    • Orderly brood nest and adaptability
    • Strong hygienic instinct

    I rely on instrumental insemination and mountain mating in isolated areas.

How it works and our mission

  • How selection works

    The selection of Ligustica bees starts from an evaluation apiary with about 60 colonies, observed from autumn to the following spring. Each family is analyzed for wintering, behavior, development, production, and hygienic instinct through targeted tests. Only the most high-performing colonies become breeder mothers. Mating is managed with a dual approach: instrumental insemination on the farm and natural mating in the mountains, in isolated areas free from genetic contamination. This ensures consistency, reliability, and a constant improvement of the characteristics of the Ligustica.
